Binhamy - The Site
An artists impression of Binhamy fortified Manor House in the 1335s. In that year Sir Ralph de Blanchminster obtained the permission of the King to crenelate his manor house. This was the fashionable thing to do at that time and was a statement of power and enhancement of his position in society.
It is possible that prior to the crenelation, the building was surrounded with a palisade. We cannot know for sure whether there were turrets as shown but the survey of the sub-soil features do indicate the possibility of a turret or perhaps a guard robe.
